USING THE SITE

Furthering the mission of Penguin Random House, the PRH Secondary Education website provides access to unparalleled books and resources for teachers to help students foster the confidence and passion to engage with books and learning.

That mission informs everything we’ve done to create this website—from curating titles and series from award-winning, celebrated and diverse authors, to developing classroom resources and guides to infuse the classroom with great fiction, nonfiction, poetry and drama.

The Penguin Random House Secondary website features over 20,000 books for the Middle and High School classroom—including numerous award-winning classroom favorites—the site presents new and classic fiction, non-fiction, poetry and drama across all of the publishing divisions and distributed partners of Penguin Random House.

Teachers will now be able to peruse book descriptions, read excerpts from inside the book, and explore titles by grade range, reading level, and subject area, including English Language Arts (ELA), Social Studies, STEAM, and Spanish-language, as well as Education and Professional Learning.

Penguin Random House also publishes a variety of educator guides designed to help support the teaching of our trade books in the classroom.  All of our guides are written by educators for educators, downloadable as PDFs and come in five different guide types, which are detailed here.

Categories and tags can be used to narrow down results when browsing Teaching Collections. Categories refer to broad topics (e.g. “English Language Arts”, “History”, “High School”, etc.); tags refer to more specific subtopics within these (e.g. “Biography”, “Fiction”, “Random House”, etc.).

Every collection and catalog is manually created, accounting for relevance, age and grade, availability, and timeliness. To see all of our collections and catalogs, click here.

Fiction books are found primarily in the English Language Arts and Spanish/Bilingual Books sections. Form those sections, you can find a wealth of fiction titles that apply to topics from across the disciplines.

Nonfiction books are found in discipline-specific topics throughout the site, as well as in the English Language Arts and Spanish/Bilingual sections.

Many of our titles are also available as eBooks and Audiobooks.

WISH LIST AND CUSTOMIZED TITLE COLLECTIONS

Click here for a video tutorial on creating and exporting wish lists!

If you don’t want to use one of the collections already created on the site, you can create a customized collection using the Wish List feature.

Tap the heart icon next to any book you wish to add to a list. The heart will fill in when you’ve added that book to your Wish List and you can see the number in your cart increase in the header. (Tap the heart again if you wish to remove the title.)

Click on the cart in the header to visit your Wish List before leaving the site – from there you can download your collection of books as either a PDF or Excel file.

Note: depending on your computer preferences (i.e. you need to allow cookies), your Wish List may not be available the next time you visit the site so please download your Wish List before you leave. Also, the download functionality may be impacted by the browser you’re using; in our tests, we noted that Chrome seems to work best. If you’re using Firefox, please “save” the Excel grid to your desktop before you open it.

Yes, you can! Within any list, click on the small heart icon underneath the titles you wish to include in your refined list. When finished, click on the “Wish List” icon at the top of the page. A new page will open showing only the titles you’ve selected from the original list. You can download your new collection into Excel or a PDF using the download icon located toward the top of the page on the right.
