The Teen Kitchen

Recipes We Love to Cook [A Cookbook]

Foreword by Rachael Ray
Look inside
A colorful and engaging cookbook, written by teenage media stars The Kitchen Twins, with more than 75 accessible, fun, healthy, and delicious recipes for everyday cooking.

Lyla and Emily Allen are only in high school, but they know their way around the kitchen. They've been cooking for years (at home and on The Rachael Ray Show), so they quickly put beginners and budding chefs at ease with friendly advice, full-color photography, and step-by-step directions. They also introduce you to the basic tools a young chef needs, explaining how to stay safe in the kitchen and outlining techniques ranging from knife skills to ingredient swaps to how to photograph your food for social media or host a cooking party for friends. In short, there's something for everyone. With more than 75 recipes to choose from--from comfort foods such as Parmesan-Crusted Grilled Cheese, to healthy options such as Green Power Smoothies, to family favorites such as Margherita Flatbread Pizza and Deep Dark Chocolate Pudding--you will have the chance to try dozens of new foods and master a wide range of cooking skills. As a bonus, virtually all of the recipes include vegetarian options and many have gluten-free or dairy-free options as well--so no matter your tastes, you will be delighted at the range of recipes that you can enjoy!
EMILY and LYLA ALLEN, known as The Kitchen Twins, got their first aprons and chef's hats at the age of three and they haven't stopped cooking since. Along the way, they discovered their love for creating fresh, natural recipes. At nine, the twins started their own blog, kitchen-twins.com. Soon after that, they won a local Shark Tank-style competition, allowing them to create and successfully test market "Make Your Own Kale Chips" kits. The teens have appeared on the Rachael Ray Show, Chopped Junior, Today Show, and Kid Food Nation, and in American Girl magazine. They live in New Jersey with their family, and in addition to cooking, they love the Adirondack mountains, animals, and playing lacrosse and field hockey--but they're not so keen on doing dishes, long car trips, or sharing the last of anything.
“Emily and Lyla were born to be in the kitchen. From PB&J Breakfast Bars to Sweet Pea Soup to Gingerbread Bread Pudding, their creative twists on fresh, healthy ingredients always blow me away.” —Rachael Ray

"The perfect gift for your budding culinary star, readers will laugh out loud at the twins’ tales of their adventures, misadventures, and recoveries in the kitchen. With friendly advice and delicious recipes that will appeal to eaters of all ages, this book is sure to be well-used and well-loved!” —Daphine Oz, chef, Emmy Award-winning television host, and New York Times bestselling author

"I have watched The Kitchen Twins and their passion for cooking grow over the years and I am delighted to see their fun, delicious, and easy recipes compiled in this new cookbook. It is the next best thing to meeting Emily and Lyla in person.” —Richard Grausman, founder of C-CAP (Careers through Culinary Arts Program) and author of French Classics Made Easy

PRH Education High School Collections

All reading communities should contain protected time for the sake of reading. Independent reading practices emphasize the process of making meaning through reading, not an end product. The school culture (teachers, administration, etc.) should affirm this daily practice time as inherently important instructional time for all readers. (NCTE, 2019)   The Penguin Random House High
