When the dogs on Flavia's street start dying, she is determined to find out who is killing them--and why. They become firm friends as they search for the killer, narrowly escape being kidnapped by a slave dealer, and uncover a series of burglaries.
Caroline Lawrence grew up in Bakersfield, California, and claims that some of her ancestors were pioneers, teamsters, and newspapermen. Caroline moved to England to study classics at Cambridge University. After a decade of immersing herself in Roman history to write the Roman Mysteries series, Caroline is now mining the rich vein of American history during the tumultuous 1860s.
