Salt in My Soul is Mallory Smith’s posthumously published memoir, the collected diaries of a remarkable young woman who was determined to live a meaningful and happy life despite her struggle with cystic fibrosis and a rare superbug—from age 15 to her death at the age of 25. Mallory’s story of resilience has resonated in classrooms across the country, with students seeing themselves reflected and validated in her writings on universal coming-of-age themes.
Now, a documentary tells Mallory’s story in an entirely new format, a powerful work that can be paired with the book to deepen students’ learning and self-reflection. The film will open in select theaters in New York and Los Angeles on January 21 and be available to stream on demand on January 25 on Apple TV. Teachers who wish to screen the documentary in their classrooms should contact Collective Eye.
